KCHW NEWS REPORTS
The Lake Spokane Fire continues to challenge crews, but progress is being made. Now 52% contained and covering 2,550 acres, the fire has drawn a major response—483 personnel are on the ground, including local teams from Stevens County Fire District working hard on mop-up operations.
Though flames have subsided in some areas, danger still lurks. Burned terrain remains unstable, with ash pits, weakened trees, rolling debris, and hidden hotspots posing serious risks to firefighters and returning residents alike.
If you’re heading back to a fire-affected area, use extreme caution: watch for smoldering debris, stay away from unstable trees and slopes, and drive slowly—crews and equipment are still active.
This fire may be shrinking, but the hazards haven’t disappeared. Keeping safety front and center helps protect both the public and the brave individuals on the line.
